Personal Projects
“For 8 months the 10th grade students at Greenville International School have worked on developing their personal projects, fulfilling each stage; and little by little achieving real results.”
The personal project is one of the two projects of the MYP (Middle Years Programme). It takes place in the 5th year as the culmination of the program with the aim of creating a product that demonstrates the consolidation of learning. As a result, its importance lies in the fact that the students can do a truly personal project, with its own meaning and essence, on a topic that presents a challenge, and that motivates and interests the student.
The Personal Project meets the stages of: inquiry, action and reflection. Established by the IB program, the stages are evaluated according to the criteria of research, planning, action and reflection that allows the development of the attributes of the IB learner profile. These become evident in each of the activities inside or outside of the school and a measurement that the students are reaching their goal.
This year the presentations were made through the TEAMS platform from July 18 to 23 and the students proved to be very creative with the development of their projects, expressing their personalities and their interests. It was very gratifying to hear how, stage by stage, the students began using the terminology and the specialized vocabulary that they acquired during each investigation since this shows the development of the MYP´s approaches and skills. One example of this was self-management, a highly-developed skill which all the students developed on their own, and achieved the transfer of knowledge.
